Oh Crap. It's Monday. Well...... Here is this in your face album to shake off that Monday feeling.
Glass Cloud is a metalcore band from Hampton, Virginia. Formed by Jerry Roush, Joshua Travis, Travis Sykes, and Chad Hasty in late 2011. The band released their debut album, The Royal Thousand on July 10 with Equal Vision Records in the US only and Basick Records for the rest of the world. Lead vocalist Roush was formerly the vocalist of Sky Eats Airplane and Of Mice & Men.
(side note: Sky Eats Airplane was a SICK BAND. Go find their stuff on the interwebs.)
Joshua Travis was the guitar player for the The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza until 2012. Their newest release Perfect War Forever is scheduled for an October 22, 2013 release via Equal Vision Records and Basick Records. Which means yes, This review is before the album is even out. Go to Glass Cloud's facebook and there is a link to listen to the new EP for free. Yes this one is an EP. Not a full length.
LE Review:
I'm a big fan of Glass Cloud. Their debut album was pretty amazing. There were one or two iffy songs I didn't dig on that album, but that is still a solid album in my books. This EP is gnarly heavy. I feel like I should be moshing in my living room, with this on full blast, spreading war paint on my face, and punching holes in the walls. Then proceeding to eat gun powder and spitting fire. It's that heavy. The guitar is just sick nasty. The drums in this album are spot on just tasty. Those time signatures. weeeew. I really love bands that utilize their bass player. I love when I can hear those thunder strings. (edit: upon later research, yes, the dude uses a nine string guitar, hence the GNARLY heavy riffs in this album.)
I know I've seen Joshua Travis use a nine string and it's just some heavy riffs that rattle your brain. The song "Soul is Dead," is going to be on repeat for me. Watch out for that intro in the song, "Lilac," its going to give you a punch in the gut. Especially while working out. It's an all natural workout enhancement. Just play this while running and you'll do your best lap time. Pretty solid EP I have to say. I wish they were releasing another full length, but who is to say they wont in the near future pretty soon. Some bands I love, their EPs between albums are almost their best material. This EP gets a Four out of Five stars. Just because it's an EP. I WANT MORE MUSIC GLASS CLOUD. Go and give this one a listen. This one is for the metal lovers out there. Take it easy and see ya here tomorrow!
