Band: Walk Off The Earth Album: R.E.V.O.
Band Bio:
Walk off the Earth is a Canadian rock band that was formed in 2006 in Burlington, Ontario, and has blown up by making low-budget music videos of covers and their original music. The band built its base with no help from record labels. In Feb. 2012 the band signed a recording contract with Columbia Records. The band is best known for its covers of popular music on YouTube, making use of uncommon instruments such as the ukulele, big guitars, sharing one regular guitar, one man band drum set up, cardboard instruments, and beat boxing. A lot of the time they use instruments they sort of taped together or created. They are best known for their cover of Gotye's "Somebody I Used to Know," it's the video of everyone on one guitar? Familiar to you? Which as of right this moment the video has 154,183,175 views. WOW.
Album review:
For a while all the Walk off The Earth I was getting was strictly on youtube. When they released R.E.V.O. I was stoked. I tried my best not to listen to any of the songs before the album came out, but their songs "Red Hands," and the cover of "Somebody that I Used to Know," I had already heard because of their popularity on YouTube. The song styles are so versatile it's ridiculous. I would say they hit, rock, country, folk, indie, hip/hop, acoustic, types of music throughout this album.
Usually some sort of mixing pot like that would be a mess in any other album, but not this one. It totally works just perfectly. If you want in for a good time check this one out. I am not going to list songs for you to check out because you can't go wrong with any of the songs on this record. They are each solid, each filled with amazingness. When you have a moment, go look for them on YouTube. See their song covers and their instruments they all switch around with. I would really love to see them live eventually. We are actually using their song "Gang of Rhythm" in our wedding. Five out of Five Spotlights for WALK OFF THE EARTH.
